Musculoskeletal Ultrasound (Joints)
The musculoskeletal ultrasound allows the study of certain joints. X-rays are not used during this exam, but rather ultrasound is emitted by a probe in the form of short pulses.
Your doctor may also request an injection (infiltration) in order to complete this exam. However, the decision to make an injection is up to the radiologist since it may not be appropriate or even harmful in some cases.
This exam is for anyone suffering from pain or limited mobility in certain joints.
N.B. These exams are available only at our private clinic Radiologie Montérégie (not covered by the RAMQ).

Note that not all joints can be properly assessed with ultrasound. We evaluate each exam request in order to provide the services best suited to your condition. We therefore invite you to send us your prescription by fax or email (please include your phone number). We will contact you to confirm the appointment.
+Duration of the exam
- 10 to 30 minutes for the exam
- You should allow 30 to 60 minutes for the entire duration of your visit.

+Registration
You must register at the front desk upon arrival at the clinic.
Make sure to bring the following with you:
- Your health insurance card (RAMQ)
- A valid prescription signed by your doctor
- Cash, credit card (Visa or MasterCard) or debit card
To avoid any delays, we recommend you arrive 15 minutes before your scheduled appointment.

No preparation is required.
+The exam
After registering, a member of our team will escort you to the changing room where you will put on an exam gown.
You will then be taken to the exam room. The radiologist will apply a gel to the area to be examined and will take pictures using an ultrasound probe.
Sometimes it is necessary to take a position that can cause mild discomfort.

+Results
For all exams, the radiologist must first analyze the numerous images obtained before making the final report. After the exam, the radiologist, at his/her discretion, may give you a brief preview of the result. Your doctor will receive a written copy of the final report within 24-48 hours.

- Bring a valid prescription signed by a physician
- Provide a method of payment (cash, credit card, or debit card). (Personal checks and American Express credit cards are not accepted.)
